ASABE has been granted the administration of the ANSI-accredited committee to representthe U.S. position in the newly formed ISO Technical Committee (TC) 347, Data-driven agrifoodsystems.
This new ISO committee was formed following a year of international review, research, and collaboration by a specialized ISO group focused on analyzing current and future needs fordata interoperability in agriculture and food systems, detecting gaps in the standards needed tosupport those needs, and proposing a prioritized strategy to address the gaps. The new TC, akey component of this strategy, will bridge the gaps among existing ISO committees tomaximize the use and usability of data.
The scope of TC 347 focuses on big-picture, data-driven decision-making in agrifoodsystems, based on scientific principles and happening in a complex, changing world. It will alsoaddress interoperability challenges in areas such as agrisemantics; sustainability in agrifoodsystems; livestock data management; and controlled environment, greenhouse, and urbanfarming. Integrated pest management, a perfect example of a data-driven, principled decision-making process, is also in scope of the new TC.
