CASSO/SNSAC maintains a list of recognized standards to support users who rely on important documents developed by accredited Standards Development Organizations (SDOs). These standards may be international or national in origin and are reviewed by technical experts to ensure they are relevant to Canadian agricultural and biosystems interests.

Recognized standards provide a practical option when full adoption of an international standard is not required or when adoption would place unnecessary demands on resources such as translation, auditing or balloting

Purpose of the Recognized Standards List

  • Provide an alternative pathway for accessing international or national standards that support Canadian needs
  • Share important and relevant standards with members, users, regulators and trade associations
  • Highlight documents that contribute to Canadian agricultural and biosystems work without requiring full adoption under SCC procedures

Eligibility and Submission Process

Any document developed by an accredited standards development organization (SDO) may be considered for recognition. To submit a document for recognition, contact CASSO/SNSAC committee leadership or ASABE Standards Staff.

Review and Approval

Submitted documents are evaluated by CASSO/SNSAC experts to confirm they meet the needs of Canadian industry and organizations involved in agricultural and biological systems. Documents that meet the criteria are approved through a formal ballot.

Once listed, recognized standards are not interpreted or endorsed by ASABE staff or committee members. Users are responsible for selecting and applying recognized standards appropriately.

Access to Recognized Standard

Recognized standards developed by other SDOs remain copyrighted and proprietary. These documents are not distributed by ASABE and must be purchased directly from the originating organization or an authorized distributor.
