ASABE Standards Expertise Supports Environmental Stewardship

ASABE Is providing administrative expertise to the National Pork Producer Council in the revision of its Good Environmental Livestock Production Practices. The work kicked off with a meeting earlier this spring co-located at the 2025 World Pork Expo, which ASABE staff attended as guests of the NPPC. Staff also conducted outreach with exhibitors whose products fell within the scope of ASABE standards.

It's serious work that benefits both the Society and the Council, but it's not without its lighter moments. Standards & Technical Director Scott Cedarquist couldn't say no to a photo with Piggy Smalls.

Additional Outreach by Staff

  • Scott Cedarquist participated virtually in the joint meeting of the ANSI Company Member Forum and Organizational Member Forum held in May. This event provided a great opportunity for the standards developers and company participants to discuss areas of mutual benefit and interest.
  • He also participated in the ANSI International Forum and International Council meetings in May. As their titles imply, these committees provide updates on the ISO standards development process and allow the US to provide feedback on new higher-level proposals within the ISO system. As an added benefit, the DC meeting location provided an opportunity for him to connect with key contacts at the USDA and the Department of Commerce.
  • Sadie Stell participated in the spring SAE ConAg Council meetings. Staff participation helps align ASABE committee interest with other off-road equipment sectors.
  • Britni Wall and Scott Cedarquist participated in the spring meeting of the North Central Education/Extension Research Activity (NCERA) 197. This committee includes many ASABE Ergonomics, Safety, and Health members and exists to develop strategies to use the land-grant system’s research and extension capacity and the experience of agricultural producers to reduce work-related injuries, illness, and death.
  • The National Frame Building Association is a long-term partner which helps ASABE maintain a number of International Building Code (IBC) cited standards used in post-frame construction. Scott Cedarquist participated at their April Technical & Research Committee meeting.

Two Energy Systems Committees Disbanded

Two energy-systems technical committees, ES-330 Fan Testing and ES-340 Standby Electric Power, have been disbanded. The committees had responsibility for maintaining the standards listed below, and these have been transferred to ES-300, Energy Utilization & Application, for maintenance.
  • ASABE S565 OCT2005 (R2020) Agricultural Ventilation Constant Speed Fan Test Standard
  • ASAE EP566.2 JUN2012 (R2022) Guidelines for Selection of Energy Efficient Agricultural Ventilation Fans
  • ANSI/ASAE EP364.4 FEB2013 (R2024) Installation and Maintenance of Farm Standby Electric Power
Those with questions about the committees or the standards may contact Britni Wall.

Got Standards Committee Questions? Now You Can Crowdsource Answers

Those involved with Standards committees will want to check out a new group titled Committee Resources. The group was created so that committee officers would have a way to share tips and ask questions of other committee volunteers with similar responsibilities.

Find the group on the Engage platform, under Committees I Can Join, within the Committees & Communities tab.
