Perhaps not everyone considers Omaha a destination city; however, it sure will be in several months when we come to town and hold the 2023 Annual International Meeting or AIM! Omaha is a unique city with abundant industry and academia nearby, and interestingly we have never held the annual meeting there. In 1924 and 1976, we were nearby meeting in Lincoln, which is home to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. The university has been great hosts in the past and this AIM will be no exception. Led by Past President Maury Salz, the local organizing committee is putting together an AIM for the ages!
Visualizing all that AIM has to offer can be daunting. So to help with that we’ve developed the AIM Orientation Tool. Answer a few questions about what you are interested in, and the tool will rank order all the AIM activities and offerings for you to consider. Want to experiment? Click the three bars in the upper right corner of the tool, click questionnaire, and enter different answers. Another great source for an AIM orientation is the video on the AIM homepage. When you’re ready to register for the meeting, or modify your registration, use this link.
While AIM officially kicks off with an opening reception on July 9, there will be a number of events taking place earlier and they are listed here. The Circular Bioeconomy Systems or CBS Day is a great example of a pre-AIM event. Whether you arrive early or stay late, just be sure to make plans to come to Omaha for AIM this July!

Early Bird Registration Ends May 1!
Remember when we were supposed to gather in Omaha for the 2020 ASABE Annual International Meeting? And then that thing happened?
Well, our Covid-delayed Omaha meet-up is finally happening, and the extended wait has only added to the energy and excitement. There are so many activities planned for you to make the most out of your travel to Omaha. Be sure to take a peek at the list of tours, CPDs, socials, student competitions, technical sessions, celebrations, and more, all happening at #ASABE23. And don't wait! Early Bird rates end May 1.
YPC Celebrates 20 Years
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Young Professional Community. There will be many events focused on the YPC during the week, with the annual Tuesday evening Foundation Dinner fundraiser becoming a joint YPC Social/Foundation event, sure to be a fantastic time for everyone who attends. The evening will begin with dinner, followed with a guest speaker presentation, "Across the Generations" by Cheryl Mitchell, and end with a chance to showcase your TRIVIA knowledge! Be sure to add this fun evening of celebration and fundraising to your AIM calendar.
Bringing the Kids to Omaha?
ASABE has contracted with KiddieCorp, Inc., a nationally recognized service specializing in tradeshow, convention, and "pop-up" childcare on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Childcare services will take place in the CHI Health Center, the same location as many technical sessions and the exhibit hall at AIM. For details and fees, check the AIM website. Advanced registration is required to use this service, please register your child before June 12.
Another option we have for kids is Wild Adventures Summer Camp at Arrowhead Park. This will take kids ages 8 to 12 by bus from the CHI Health Center to the camp in Neola, Iowa, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Children will leave at 8 am and return approximately by 3:45 pm each day. The cost is $200 per child. See the camp flyer for full details.
Technical Program Finalized Mid-May
After the Early Bird registration deadline of May 1, technical presentations will be added to the session listings. You can check the agenda page for a complete listing of technical presentations by mid-month. Committee meetings will also have been collected and scheduled by then as well.
If you are presenting at the annual meeting, you need to ensure your registration is complete before May 1 so that your presentation is not removed from the program. Lightning sessions will return again this year. These sessions are presented in person at AIM by the author as a summary with the full presentation recorded in the meeting app online. The app will be available about one week prior to the start of AIM for you to log in and review these videos. "Favorite" the sessions so that you can attend in person to connect with the author for discussion and Q&A.
What's In It For Me?
If you've never attended an ASABE Annual International Meeting, you may be asking, Why should I go? What's in it for me? And in any given year, our annual meeting packs a lot of program content that, on first glance, can be a bit overwhelming to a newcomer.
We know those challenges! And we've come up with the Meeting Orientation tool to help you zero in on relevant activities. This custom-built web app will pose a few questions to determine your interests and career stage, then identify technical sessions, networking opportunities, and tours that meet your needs. Check it out!
Not to be confused with the AIM Meeting App, which will launch for registrants just prior to the meeting.

Nominating Committee Seeks Candidates for 2024 Ballot
With the 2023 elections behind us, and new officers prepared to take their positions in July, at the end of the annual meeting, it is time to anticipate the 2024 leadership ballot.
Nominees are being sought for president-elect and three trustee positions. Nominating committee position to be filled include EOPD, ESH, PAFS, International, District 1, District 3, and District 5. Members of the Nominating committee have the serious but rewarding task of securing candidates. The slate they prepare is presented in January for ballot by the general ("corporate") membership. The committee comprises representatives from each of the Society's technical and geographic units, as well as the International membership. The staggered terms are for two years.
Those wishing to put forth nominations are encouraged to submit names and supporting materials to a member or members of the Nominating committee by July 1. Current committee members are as follows:

ASABE Board Approves Updated Statement on Diversity
ASABE launched E-03, the committee on Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access in 2020. This group is charged with ensuring that ASABE be an inclusive organization that encourages and supports the profession and all of its members. Similar to other professional organizations, ASABE has a published statement on Diversity which describes the society’s over-arching philosophy. This statement was developed in 2004 and has been in need of a refresh.
The E-03 committee reviewed similar statements published by peer professional organizations and industry partners with whom we interface. Key attributes of professional society statements typically include: Society mission, Definitions, Rationale for supporting IDEA, and a Commitment to IDEA. Note that there is no consensus on whether the topic of a “diversity statement” should be titled IDEA, DEI, IDEAL, etc. Each group builds from their own guiding philosophy.

The above serve as valuable resources to learn more about inclusion throughout the engineering profession.
ASABE’s E-03 developed a revised statement, termed the “ASABE Policy Statement on Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access,” which was conveyed to the ASABE BOT and subsequently approved at their April 2023 meeting, held last week. We are grateful for the Board’s support and recognition that our members have broad backgrounds and experiences and that for our profession to grow we should welcome and be welcoming to all who choose to join.

Watch Your Social Media Feeds as New Faces Tell Their #ASABEstory
 We received some fantastic submissions for the New Faces video campaign this year, in which members were invited to add their #ASABEstory to President Keith Tinsey's, in which he declares, "I wouldn't be me without ASABE."
Two entries in particular captured our hearts, drawing attention to the supportive, close community individuals enjoy when they join, and ramp up their engagement in, the Society.
We're rolling out the announcements on our socials, including Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, so be sure to watch for those #ASABEstory videos as they're posted. Be sure Like and Share!

AIM to Welcome Borlaug Humanitarian Awardee Chris Field
 We're pleased to announce our keynote speaker for this year's annual international meeting: Chris Field, winner of the Norman Borlaug Humanitarian Award, will share motivational stories from his experiences as a leader and change agent.
Author of Disrupting for Good, Field has been effecting positive change for most of his life, running for mayor as a teenager, breaking multiple Guinness World Records, and winning the Borlaug Award for his leadership in using aquaculture in rural Ghana to help rescue more than 250 children from slavery. He inspires others from all walks of life (including engineers!) to see that the very tools they already use every day are the same tools needed to disrupt for good.
In his keynote, Field will weave his own story with those of other ordinary people who became extraordinary disruptors, offering a clear call to action: Anybody, anywhere, can choose to disrupt for good. And not only can they, but they must.

"Explore" Advertising in Careers issue of Resource
 We’re gearing up to produce the ninth "Explore" issue of Resource magazine, which will focus on careers in agricultural technology and systems management. The issue will be mailed in September to ASABE members and non-member Resource subscribers. In addition, we’re anticipating an overrun of around 10,000 copies for student recruitment purposes. Copies are distributed via Engineers Week, FFA National Convention, requests for career materials, and other outreach.

Be sure to use the 2023 paper template and read the FAQ for instructions. If your paper is not submitted by May 1 (midnight eastern time), it will not be added to our Online Technical Library until after the meeting. Email AIMpapers@asabe.org with questions.

Convert your 2023 AIM presentation to a journal article and receive a page charge discount of $100, or 10%, if over 10 pages for the final layout. You must be registered for the 2023 Annual International Meeting, present your work at the 2023 AIM, and submit your manuscript to ScholarOne by October 1, 2023.
When uploading to ScholarOne, at the end of Step 1: Type, Title, & Abstract, be sure to select the special collection "Annual International Meeting (AIM) Discount" and include in your cover letter your 2023 AIM paper number.

Digital Water: Computing Tools, Technologies, and Trends. This collection focuses on digital water and its early applications in different areas of water resources planning and management.
December 31, 2023
Regenerative Ag collection. This is a collection of journal papers on a wide range of topics and community contributions. We invite papers that evaluate the multidimensional impacts of regenerative agricultural practices, including but not limited to (1) biophysical impacts, i.e., on the soil-plant-atmospheric continuum, and resource efficiency; (2) environmental, economic, and social outcomes; and (3) technological innovations that streamline and promote adoption of such practices. Experts from within ASABE as well as from other synergistic disciplines are invited to participate.

Alocilja Featured in Book Honoring Women in STEM
 ASABE Member Evanglyn (Vangie) Alocilja is one of thirty women whose stories are told in a new book and serve to inspire change for women working in STEM fields.
Lessons Learned: Stories from Women Leaders in STEM addresses the lack of women in STEM careers through the first-person accounts of notable women who have excelled in leadership roles.
Alocilja is a professor in the biosystems and agricultural engineering department at Michigan State University. She is a 29-year member of ASABE.
