ASABE, SEIA to Collaborate on Agrivoltaics Standards

Solar panels in an agricultural fieldASABE and the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) have agreed to jointly develop industry standards for agrivoltaics, the dual use of land for agriculture and solar energy production. The two organizations are currently collaborating to identify subject areas in which new standards would be beneficial to industry.

ASABE Executive Director Darrin Drollinger explains that the collaboration leverages the agricultural expertise of ASABE members and the specialized knowledge of SEIA members in photovoltaic and energy storage technologies. "Together, we aim to establish comprehensive standards that will advance the field of agrivoltaics and promote sustainable land use,” he says.

Gerald "Jerry" Brusewitz

Gerald "Jerry" Brusewitz

ASABE Fellow Gerald “Jerry” Henry Brusewitz passed away on December 30, 2024, at the age of 82. Raised on his parents’ dairy farm in Black Creek, Wisconsin, he attended Seymour High School and was in the first testing group of the ACT exam for college admissions, later becoming a “poster boy” for ACT success stories. He went on to earn his BS in agriculture and mechanical engineering and his MS in agricultural engineering from University of Wisconsin, then continued his education at Michigan State University, where he earned a PhD in agricultural engineering

His professional career started and ended at Oklahoma State University, beginning in 1969 and ending in 2002, when he retired with the rank Regents Professor. He truly enjoyed teaching and getting to know his students. In fact, he was known to invite his international students to his home to spend holiday dinners. While an OSU faculty member he received awards including Outstanding Faculty in the College of Agriculture and Outstanding Faculty in the College of Engineering. He was elected an ASABE Fellow in 1990. Sabbatical leaves included University of California, Davis; Cornell University; Dominica and Kuwait Institute for Science Research.

In retirement, Brusewitz enjoyed being a part of the Stillwater community, volunteering at Stillwater Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, and Stillwater Restore, which he helped found in 2002.

Brusewitz had been a 40-year member of ASABE.
