Calhoun has more than 20 years of association leadership experience, in both executive and consulting roles. As president and CEO of Eclipse Business Strategies, he has led consulting engagements for associations and corporations, driving financial sustainability, organizational alignment, and strategic execution. His most recent day-to-day management role was with the Door & Hardware Institute and Door Security and Safety Foundation. We are confident that under his leadership, ASABE will strengthen its role as a premier global organization supporting professionals who are dedicated to sustainable solutions for food, water, fiber, energy, and the environment.”

“I am incredibly honored and excited to join ASABE as its new executive director,” says Calhoun. “The opportunity to lead an organization dedicated to advancing sustainable solutions for some of humanity's most critical challenges is truly inspiring. I extend my sincere gratitude to the search committee and President Otto for their thorough process and for placing their trust in me. I look forward to working alongside the talented ASABE members and staff to build upon the strong foundation laid by Darrin Drollinger and to drive the organization forward, leveraging my experience to strengthen our impact and expand our reach.”

Calhoun will officially begin his role May 1, 2025. He succeeds Darrin Drollinger, who has led the Society since 2010 and announced his retirement in July 2024.

In Memoriam

Bernard E. Romig

Bernie RomigBernard E. Romig, 88, of Illinois City, Illinois, died March 20, 2025. Born in Grant, Iowa, Romig graduated from high school in 1955 and received his bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering from Iowa State University in 1959. He then proudly served in the United States Army until he was honorably discharged in 1961, remaining in the CE Reserve. Serving in the Army ROTC at Iowa State led to a commission in the army, which he followed by earning his master’s and doctoral degrees in agricultural engineering from Cornell University. He graduated first of his class at each school he attended.

Romig worked as a principal engineer at John Deere for more than 51 years until his retirement in 2017. Out of 75,000 employees, he had the achievement of being 1 in 30 to be named a John Deere Fellow. He received that honor in 2016, for his expertise in motion dynamics, vehicle electrification, and technology solutions. During his career, he’d been awarded for 20 patents with John Deere, the most notable being for the John Deere Sprayers. He was co-recipient, in 2008, of ASABE's Quad City section's Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award for work on tractor power hop, and he was the 2014 Quad City Engineering and Science Council’s Senior Engineer of the Year.

Romig was a 66-year member of ASABE.
