From the Executive Director

Darrin Drollinger Headshot
Perhaps you noticed the new look and format with this issue of Inside. These changes debuted in the winter issue of the ASABE Student Newsletter and incorporate major elements from our new logo and branding efforts. On a related note, we published a series of brand style guides, which offer useful artwork, templates, and guidance when individuals and groups develop ASABE branded communications.

Earlier this month, we hosted ASABE student officers at Headquarters for their winter retreat. Meeting and spending time with our officers is a treat, and this year President Dana Porter joined us via Zoom, to provide a motivational welcome to get things started. Three of the five International Student Branch (ISB) leaders attended in-person: Paige Seibert, President (North Carolina State University), Akiya Stywall, 1st Vice President (North Carolina A&T University), and Paulina Baker, Secretary (University of Wisconsin–Madison). The students planned for AIM, worked on upcoming newsletters, developed social media content, and met with staff. It was a productive and memorable retreat . . .  including a typical lake-effect snow storm that dumped nearly a foot in some areas—see the photo below for evidence!

President Biden’s Executive Order on Advancing Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing Innovation for a Sustainable, Safe and Secure American Bioeconomy was issued in fall of 2022. This initiated the National Science Foundation to launch the Catalyzing Across Sectors to Advance the Bioeconomy (CASA-Bio) effort. CASA-Bio is holding a series of virtual town hall meetings in February and encouraging the research community to share thoughts on how to advance the U.S. bioeconomy. See this link for details.

Congratulations to the 2024 AE50 Award Winners

AE50 Awards Announced

ASABE and Resource magazine are pleased to announce the winners of the 2024 AE50 Awards, celebrating companies and their technological developments in agricultural, food, and biological systems. Recipients will be formally recognized during a luncheon on February 13, at the Agricultural Equipment Technology Conference.

The  2024 class of AE50 winners will now be reviewed for selection of the 2024 Davidson Prize, presented each year to the top three products. This year's Davidson Prizes will be announced at Commodity Classic, being held February 28 – March 2, in Houston.

"I'm always impressed by the breadth and diversity of technology reflected in the AE50 winners," says ASABE Executive Director Darrin Drollinger. "Full machines and major equipment systems will always be well represented among the AE50; however, every year we see more software and digital solutions propelling agriculture forward."

Some of those non-machine winners include:

  • AgIN solution, from the Agricultural Electronics Industry Foundation
  • CABA's DLI Light Detective for greenhouses
  • The EC-C17008-420 Electric Power Converter, from Danfoss
  • Spectrum Technologies' WatchDog portable wind sensor
  • Berry Impact Recorder by Alpha AgTech LLC

With eight AE50 Awards, CLAAS tops the list of companies with multiple honors. Others include AGCO (five), Case IH (four), and Deere and New Holland (two apiece).

A full list of this year's winning products can be found here.
