ASABE Events and COVID-19

Update May 7, 2020

In this time of unprecedented circumstances, the ASABE leadership, Meetings Council, and headquarters staff have been working together to craft a plan for the 2020 Annual International Meeting (AIM), which was slated to be held in Omaha, Nebraska, July 12-15, 2020. We have decided to hold the AIM 2020 virtually only. This will open up new opportunities that we hadn’t considered previously.

Because conditions surrounding COVID-19 change rapidly, and are different in every state and country, we concluded an in-person meeting is impractical. The virtual option will allow us to meet the health and safety needs of our members, and staff, which we respect and hold as our utmost priority.

You can expect another update within the next two weeks, when more details are available. Watch this space and also asabemeetings.org for more information. In the meantime, know that #ASABE2020 is still on the calendar, and we have much to be encouraged by and intend to make it the best event possible.

Please take care and stay healthy.

Update March 24, 2020

Almost overnight, COVID-19 has changed our lives in previously unimaginable ways and left us all wondering when we will ever get back to normal. No organization is immune to this turmoil, and several upcoming ASABE events have been cancelled or postponed, as listed elsewhere on this page.

At this point, we’re still planning to hold the 2020 AIM in Omaha on July 12-15, and all associated student competitions. Obviously, rapidly changing circumstances may impact these decisions. We will report any changes as soon as we know of them.

For students who are considering working on their projects with in-person meetings, please do so only if that’s permitted by your university and local health authorities. Any competition activities that you can do remotely, such as generating reports and performing computer simulations, may continue at the discretion of your team advisor. The student competition committees are monitoring current events, and they will provide further guidance in the near future.

Be safe during this difficult time. We’re all in this together, and we will get through it together.

March 16, 2020
The health and safety of our members and event attendees will always be our top priority.

At this time, the 2020 Annual International Meeting is proceeding as scheduled, as are many section and student events. Nevertheless, we are monitoring local, national, and international health authorities, including the CDC and WHO, as the spread of COVID-19 evolves. Additionally, we are coordinating with our section and student volunteers to address the unique needs of their events, and we are in close communication with peer organizations to ensure we are considering every aspect of event planning and attendance.

ASABE staff members are working remotely, to ensure Society operations are proceeding with little if any interruption, and we fully intend to maintain our high standards of customer service.

#ASABE2020 is still many weeks out, and we will continue to assess plans as information emerges about COVID-19.

If it becomes prudent to postpone, modify, or cancel any upcoming ASABE event, be assured that we will communicate changes clearly and promptly. Find the Announcements section of this page for current information.

Throughout the coming weeks, we urge you to take advantage of all available resources, including your local and state health authorities, in evaluating travel to ASABE events, whether close to home or beyond. For those traveling internationally, we encourage you to consult the US State Department website for up-to-date advisories.
