ASABE Awards Presented to Six for Advancing the Profession

The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) recently presented awards for excellence in efforts that help advance the profession.  The following individuals were honored at the 2024 ASABE Annual International Meeting, held in Anaheim, California.

John R. Fisher, ASABE Fellow, is the recipient of the 2024 Evelyn E. Rosentreter Standards awards for his efforts to create, maintain, and promote machinery and safety standards for national and international markets. The Evelyn E. Rosentreter Standards Award recognizes individuals who have given exceptional contributions toward the generation, maintenance, and administration of ASABE standards.

Dwayne R. Edwards, PE, is the recipient of the 2024 James R. and Karen A. Gilley Academic Leadership award for demonstrating leadership and fostering a sense of community through service to students, staff, and faculty in biological systems engineering. The James R. & Karen A. Gilley Academic Leadership Award honors an ASABE member who is currently providing outstanding academic leadership while serving as department head/chair of an ABET-accredited biological and agricultural engineering department.

Jenny Keshwani is the recipient of the 2024 Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) award for leading ASABE to be a more welcoming society for all. The IDEA Award recognizes outstanding contributions by an individual or group to ASABE-related programs of education, research, extension, development, consultation, or technology transfer that have resulted in significant improvement within the parameters of inclusion, diversity, equity and access for under-represented groups and which have led the Society in fostering a welcoming and safe community for all members.

Chandra A. Madramootoo, PE, ASABE Fellow, is the recipient of the 2024 Kishida International award for significant contributions to soil and water engineering, and water and food security in the Caribbean, Central and South Asia, Middle-East and Sub-Saharan Africa. The Kishida International Award honors outstanding contributions to programs of education, research, development, consultation, or technology transfer that have resulted in significant improvements outside the United States. 

Kevin M. Keener, PE, ASABE Fellowis the recipient of the 2024 Lalit and Aruna Verma award for Excellence in Global Engagement for global efforts in tackling food sustainability through educational programming and collaborative research in food engineering. The Lalit and Aruna Verma Award for Excellence in Global Engagement recognizes outstanding contributions made towards global advancement and recognition of the profession of agricultural and biological engineering, and excellence in global engagement and international education, outreach, or research. 

Daniel C. Rutland, PE, is the recipient of the 2024 PEI Professional Engineer of the Year award for his unparalleled leadership, technical contributions, and dedication to a better world which has provided immeasurable benefit to the agricultural engineering profession. The PEI Professional Engineer of the Year Award recognizes a licensed engineer who has made outstanding contributions to the engineering profession, the public welfare, and/or humankind. 

ASABE is an international scientific and educational organization dedicated to the advancement of engineering applicable to agricultural, food, and biological systems.
