The teaching modules are processed through the peer-review process that is nearly identical to the system used for ASABE journals. The student material is available via the Technical Library and instructor material is distributed upon request. The goal is to provide high quality teaching materials to facilitate the learning experience. There are no page charges for publishing the teaching module and anyone may download the student content via the “Course Material Download” link for each course.
Criteria for Modules
The material must represent a useful, original contribution to the body of ASABE peer-reviewed teaching materials.
The materials must effectively and accurately address the stated learning objectives.
The information must be presented in an objective, well-organized manner that allows for easy adaptation and use by others.
The following list represents examples of materials that will be considered.
- Complete set of materials for a course such as, but not limited to, class presentation slides, associated student learning materials, and assessment tools.
- A module(s) for a portion of a course.
- Supplemental teaching materials (simulation model, lab guide, internet-based tools or similar content) designed to facilitate student learning.
Process for Submission
Authors should contact ASABE refereed publications at manuscripts@asabe.org, provide the topic, scope (whole course or single topic that would require a certain number of classroom hours), the types of material, a sample of content, and an overview of the course. ASABE staff would check to see if the content is appropriate for the ASABE scope and that the sample is in good shape. ASABE staff contacts the EOPD Community Editor and works with the author to get the submission started in ScholarOne Manuscript Central. If you have large files or special file types, we will need to discuss how to best handle them. At this point, the material has entered the refereed journal process and will be assigned an Associate Editor and reviewers. Authors must obtain copyright permissions for any material used.
When the review process is complete, the material is divided into student and instructor material. ASABE staff would likely make some edits to the material to at least add copyright information. The student material is zipped into one file and posted in the Technical Library. The instructor material is zipped into a file and made available by request to ASABE.
The first ASABE teaching module published is on the topic of cotton processing and authored by Brock Faulkner. The module consists of PowerPoint slides, supplemental student material, labs, and homework. You can see an example of the first course below:
